Traveling in Central Kenya

The Republic of Kenya is a country in Eastern Africa. The 'Land of the Lion King' sits at the center of the African safari experience with a striking variety of wild animals. Safaris are regarded as the country's greatest attraction, but it is a country of great diversity and has much more to offer than splendid wildlife. Traveling in Central Kenya can be an interesting option for the adventurous travelers seeking thrill in the wild African safaris.

Overview of Central Kenya:
The Central Province of Kenya covers the area around Nyeri to southwest of Mt. Kenya and north of the capital of Nairobi. While traveling in Central Kenya you must keep a watch on the climate which is generally cooler than that of the rest of Kenya due to higher altitude of the region. The rainfall is fairly predictable usually twice in a year; one from early March to May and a second during October and November. The people are warm and friendly and the combination of wildlife, together with its mountain and rugged terrains, make Central Kenya a fantastic holiday destination.

Traveling in Central Kenya can include a visit to the cities of Gilgil, Maragua, Murang'a, Nyahururu, etc. A much sought after destination is Aberdare National park.

Aberdare National park in Central Kenya:
The Aberdare National Park was established in 1950 to protect the forested slopes and wildlife of the Aberdare Mountains. The park has elephant, lion, rhino, black leopard and the beautiful bongo antelope, but safari companies and individual travelers are not very frequent here. The reason for this is very heavy rainfall and minimal facilities. But that does not mean that the place is devoid of residential areas. You can make your stay extremely adventurous by staying in the tree houses. The lodges are also the main attraction of the place. Both the hotels are built above the ground beside floodlit waterholes with salt licks. Visitors must remember to book in advance and cannot use their private vehicles to reach the lodge.

So make tour traveling in Central Kenya memorable by paying a visit to the Aberdare National park. Click on the links below for detailed information:
