Nyandarua District is in the Central Province of Kenya. Ol Kalou is the capital. The district is located on the northwestern part of the Central Province, with the Aberdare Range to its west. The topography of the area is quite diversified which includes cascading waterfalls, rain forests and open moors. Aberdare National Park:
The Aberdare National Park is in Aberdare – an isolated volcanic range which forms the eastern side of the rift valley. It runs across 100 kilometer north south between Nairobi and Thomson Falls. Owing to the volcanic origin the soil is red and rich in organic matter. There are many beautiful fresh water streams and spectacular waterfalls. The park has 60 kilometer and 396 kilometer of primary and secondary roads. The central part of the region is not really accessible during the rainy season. Vehicles cannot be used in northern Aberdare which still remains cut off from the central region. The national park is home to many rarest of the rare species of animals like Bongo (large antelopes whose hides were used to make drums) and Black Rhino and many more. Aberdare region is quite dense making it difficult to spot wild animals.
Amboseli National Park:
The Amboseli National Park is noted for its unparalleled scenic beauty. Huge African elephants are found in plenty here. The park is home to over 900 elephants, which are major attractions for tourists. Amboseli also houses Giraffe, African Black Rhino, Wildebeests, Leopards, Lions, and Cheetahs, Buffaloes and Hippos and many more animals. Zebras, Masai Giraffe, Waterbucks are some of the other commonly available game at the eastern side of the park. Amboseli also attracts and shelters over 400 species of birds.
