Kwale has a latitudinal location of 4°10'60?S, 39°27'0?E approximately. It is located at a distance of 30 km on the southwestern part of Mombasa and 15 km on the inland. As of 1999, it had an urban population of 4200. Sightseeing in Kwale consists of visiting the Shimba Hills National Reserve and a few natural reserves and sanctuaries. Kwale lies next to the Shimba Hills National Reserve while Golini also offers a nice view of the town of Mombasa, as a result of its high elevation. Along the KWS strip is the Shimba Hills Hotel and Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary, at a little distance from Kwale. It should be kept in mind, while sightseeing in Kwale, there are only a few big hotels and luxurious resorts there.

Kwale forms part of the Republic of Kenya, which lies in the Eastern African province. It is bordered on the north by Ethiopia, on the northeast by Somalia, on the south by Tanzania, on the west by Uganda and on the northwest by Sudan while the Indian Ocean runs parallel to the southeastern border. Kenya consists of 8 provinces, which are chairmaned by a Provincial Commissioner. The status of a full administrative province is enjoyed by the city of Nairobi.
The lovely islands of Shimoni and Wasini house an authentic Swahili culture and is also home to a well protected area of the marine reserve. Beaches like the Nyali, Bamburi, Shanzu, Kikambala and Vipingo lie north of the town of Mombasa. These beaches should not be missed while sightseeing in Kwale. The coastal town of Kilifi is very close to Kwale. Kilifi houses the many artists as well as adventurers from different parts of the world, who come here to quench their thirst for adventure and pleasure.
