Malindi in Kenya is known for the arrival of Vasco de Gama way back in 1498 and from then on, remained an important center of Portuguese operations in this part of the world. Though still far from being a modern town, Malindi continues to be on the travel and tourism circuit of Kenya, attracting a sizeable chunk of visitors to the country. Traveling in Malindi, in spite of all the bottlenecks is still delightful, basking in the glory of sun and natural habitation.

The coral reef in Malindi is simply amazing. The Malindi/Watamu Marine National Park and Reserve provides for a few exciting stretches on the coast. An important game fishing center, Malindi is also popular for surfing. The town does boast of an ancient history with a social and cultural life of its own. An old Swahili quarter, shops, a busy market, small stalls and hotels offering local delicacies are part and parcel of Malindi sojourn for most of the visitors.
