Traveling in Nyanza

The continent named Africa is popular among people across the world as a hub for international and intercontinental tourism. The deep forest, national parks and the free movement of wild animals are the greatest tourist attractions of Africa. Millions of tourists from all corners of the globe travel to different parts of Africa to enjoy their safari. Tourism is one of the strongest sector of the economy of most of the African nations. Kenya is not an exception. Every year the country earns huge revenue from the tourism sector. Most of the provinces and regions in Kenya are tourist destinations. Apart from forests, scenic beauty, natural landscapes, mountains, rivers and lakes also attract large number of tourists.
Situated in the South West corner of the country, Nyanza is a province that remains crowded with tourists almost throughout the year. Every year large number of tourists come to Kenya for traveling in Nyanza.

Nyanza is one of the seven administrative provinces in Kenya outside Nairobi and its provincial capital is Kisumu, the third largest city in the country. It is located on lake Victoria which is the most important factor behind traveling in Nyanza. The province is the home to different tribes such as Luo, Gusii, Kuria and Luhya. As the province is situated on Lake Victoria, Sukuma, a Bantu speaking tribe living on the bank of the lake named it Nyanza, because to them, Nyanza means large mass of water. Lake Victoria is the largest fresh water lake in Africa and offers great scenic beauty to tourists. But apart from that fishing around the lake is also a great attraction. The two most common fishes that are caught in Lake Victoria are tilapia and Nile perch. Exploring in the villages on the bank of the lake and watching the livelihood of Luo and Kisii people also make traveling in Nyanza valuable for tourists.

The other tourist attractions are Masai Mara National reserve and the Kisumu Museum. Masai Mara National reserve is one of the most famous national reserves in the world and is located near the Tanzanian border. You would surely love to see wide range of wild animals roaming around in close vicinity, the rich vegetation and would surely enjoy the local sightseeing. You must also not miss the Kakamega Forest Reserve and Mt. Elgon while traveling in Nyanza. Inside the Kisumu Museum you would get to see plenty of animal exhibits, ethnographic exhibits, large collection of musical instrument, agricultural tools, traps, clothing, furniture and weapons.
