Although national reserve parks and wildlife safaris are the major tourist attractions in Kenya, the land is also known for its rich historical background. There are several museums in Kenya that play an important role in preserving the country's rich past.   • Railway Museum: Situated near Haile Selassie Avenue, the Railway Museum is one of the most interesting museum in Kenya. It plays an important role in displaying the role played Kenyan railway in the development of the country. The Railway Museum proudly displays 10 steam engines belonging to the period from 1923 to 1955. The exhibits of the museum interests children and adults alike. The Railway Museum opens every day in a week from 8:30 in the morning to 4:45 pm in the evening.

  • National Archives: The National Archives is located on Moi Ave near Hilton Hotel. This is the best museum in Kenya to witness the rich historical past of the country. Apart from historical documents and important photographs, the National Archives also contains tribal handicraft pieces and artworks. A visit to the National Archives is a must while on a holiday in Kenya. The Archives is open to all. It open regularly on weekdays from 8:00 am in the morning to 5:00 pm in the evening.

  • National Museum of Kenya: This national museum was founded in the year 1939, after the relics of the East Africa Natural History Society were submitted to the colonial Government of Kenya. It is not only a storehouse of the country's rich past, it also works towards public education and research.
