Traveling in Nakuru

Nakuru is the fourth biggest town of Kenya. Traveling in Nakuru obviously carries importance to the travelers traveling to this town of Kenya. Nakuru traveling brings joy and happiness in the mind of the tourists. The reason for the tourist’s interest in Nakuru travel to Kenya is because of the Lake Makuru National Park, Menengai Crater and Hyrrax hill pre-historic site.
Traveling to Nakuru provides interesting in formation to the travelers. ‘Nakuru’ means dust or places of dust in Massai language. Lake Nakuru National Park was set up in the year 1961. In the beginning the park was set up in a small area, later on the famous lakes and the surrounding areas grew up. Now the time has come to bring in large part of the grasslands.

Traveling in Nakuru is a thrilling one for the travelers when they view the Lake Nakuru. It is a shallow alkaline lake in Nakuru, which is around 160 km North of Nairobi. The trip to Nakuru can be undertaken in a day from the Kenyan capital Nairobi. The journey will take place via Masai Mara or Lake Baringo or the East to Samburu.

Lake Nakuru is known the world over as the center of colorful birds and pink flamingoes. The numbers of the birds are based on the belief; sometimes it even becomes a million old. The birds are given algae and later on enjoys under the warm waters.

Nakuru is the provincial capital of the Rift Valley. The economy of the area is fully dominated by agriculture. Now the Government of Kenya is making effort to develop the area as a prominent tourist spot of the country.

Every year there is a turnaround of tourist’s traffic of little over 1, 00,000 tourists per year. Out of them, though the lions share of the tourist’s traffic are the Kenyan nationals and some from other parts of the globe. The park is situated at least 4 km from the Nakuru city proper.

Kenya Wildlife Service is making all out efforts to preserve the park through training facilities provided to the forestry personnel. There is a bus service arranged by the Forest Department for the residents of Nakuru and the tourists to visit the Wild Life Forest at low prices.
